NCC is the top performing general FE college nationally for overall Apprenticeship achievement, at all ages and levels, according to the government figures, and is also number one for 16-18 classroom learning achievement, at all levels, and is number one for 16-18 timely Apprenticeship achievement, at all levels.

Their Needs

The merger between Nelson and Colne College and Lancashire Adult learning in 2016/17 stimulated a JISC sponsored tender, to establish a new mobile supplier for both education providers. With the Adult Learning department having the need for Lecturers to travel into remote areas of Lancashire and still be able to offer high speed 4G internet access to their mature students, a supplier that can provide excellent network coverage was necessary, wherever required throughout Lancashire.

Also top of their considerations were competitive pricing, flexible contracts and the ability for each department to supervise their use of mobile services on a daily basis. As well as the ability for each department to sign off their own section of a single bill, without having access to any other part of the Colleges bills.

After considering many potential suppliers, Midland Telecom were able to meet with the Colleges needs and satisfy all the requirements of network coverage, price and flexible portal access, billing and contracts.

Their experience in managing other Education users and long established business model were also deciding factors in their selection.

The Solution

The total fleet of over 200 mobile connections has now been transferred and Nelson and Colne College are enjoying much lower costs, departmental billing and a greatly simplified administration.

Midland Telecom were able to customize the access to their Ebillz cloud portal. The platform uniquely allows Nelson and Colne College and Lancashire Adult Learning to access their own departments, right down to each departments cost centre. This makes charging of the bills much easier and all expenditure is closely and privately monitored with a single platform.

Cost coding of each department so they were able to sign off their own mobile phone usage.

Amanda Mills, IT Manager

“The ability for each supervisor to monitor and supervise their own expenditure has greatly improved our internal accounting and reduction of cost and overspending.”

Implementation

The College had several suppliers and multiple bills. After a planning meeting the College was able to set up a schedule of transfers and migrate all of the users onto the single billing platform with the minimum of termination fees and outages.

Leon Fletcher the Key Account Manager made several visits to make sure all the processes went to plan and supervisors were trained using several Web based interactive training sessions.
