Birmingham Dogs Home was founded in 1892. In 1987 the Duchess of York officially opened the New Bartholomew Street site in Digbeth and in 2002 the state-of-the-art Sunnyside Kennels followed. In recent years the Charity recognised that with little room to expand the existing home a new site had to be found that would enhance the service provided by the charity now and for years to come. The Trustees chose a 12.45-acre site in Solihull. Situated in the Green Belt this required a very environmentally considerate design but also posed other hurdles to come.
With the many advantages a new site in the tranquillity of the Green Belt provides the Charity, the dogs it cares for and their supporters & volunteers it also presented a new set of problems with Internet Connectivity. A common problem in rural areas is Poor Internet Connectivity and like all Organisations or Businesses this is imperative for the day to day running of the Charity and communication and access to systems is vital. Birmingham Dogs Home was left with one of the best purpose-built dog homes in the country but an Internet Connection that took them back to Dial Up speeds with very few affordable options.
Working within a strict budget the chosen solution was Satellite Broadband; using a line of sight to multiple Orbiting Satellites, Midland Telecom guarantee speeds of up to 22Mb Download and 6Mb Upload.
An Engineer came to the site to Survey the Satellite installation to ensure the standard mount was applicable for our building type and to check line of sight. Due to the building design, an additional pole was required to install the Satellite Equipment but the Dish & Wireless Router are provided in the package. The fabrication of the additional pole was completed within a couple of days and the engineer returned to site completing the installation.
- Quick and Simple Installation
- Guaranteed Speeds of 22Mb Download and 6Mb Upload
- All Equipment included in the monthly cost of the Package
- Costs comparable to Dual ADSL or Single FTTC Broadbands
“The last thing we had considered when relocating was our Internet Connection, we just expected it to work as always.”
Simon Price, Chief Executive
